That phrase is your compass. The specific category connecting the words?
Admirable traits.
You want traits you can rely on. Qualities of someone who shows up when it matters. If you know how the game works, you already have half the battle. Find any four-letter word. Or five. Or six. Every set of three valid words of four+ letters triggers a reveal for the grid. It rewards progress, even if that progress is meager.

Identifying the Spangram
Strands includes one spangram. This is a special answer that spans the entire board.
From top to bottom, side to side, or anywhere in between, this single word defines the puzzle’s intent. It links the theme directly to the mechanics of the game.
The spangram for puzzle #818 completes the set. With it, and the five traits above, you have captured all hidden words on the board.

The structure forces you to think differently than standard crossword grids. You look for edges first. The spangram is usually visible along the perimeter of the letter cloud. Spot it early, and the inner words tend to organize themselves.
