The Date and Location
August 12. New York City. Mark it on your calendars if you care enough.
Google just announced the details for its “Made by Google” launch event on Tuesday. We know the time, the place, the host company.
A Change in Vibe
Remember last year?
Yeah, that whole circus. Jimmy Fallon. Stephen Curry. The Jonas Brothers trying to look cool next to phones. It was painful. Cringeworthy is an understatement.
This year’s invites look quieter. No A-list guest lists leaked so far. Maybe Google realized that sports stars and pop icons don’t actually sell silicon. Hopefully we get to see the phones instead of a celebrity cameo montage.
The Rumors
The leaks are flowing.
Email invites from outlets like The Verge and Bloomberg hint at some serious design tweaks. There’s talk of a new gold color variant for the standard Pixel 11. Not just any gold—something shiny, distinct.
Other whispers suggest slimmer bezels for the base model. Sleek black camera bars too. Clean.
Then there’s the Pixel 11 Pro.
It might be thinner than the one you currently have in your pocket. A slimmed-down profile. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is getting attention as well—reports mention a redesigned camera bump. Lighter weight, better balance. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?
The Bad News
Wait. There’s a catch.
Storage might get expensive.
One report claims Google could ditch the 128GB tier entirely. Starting at 256GB. Which usually means one thing: higher prices.
Why do tech companies always punish you for wanting to store fewer photos?
It’s a strategy, sure. Push users to buy more storage or subscribe to the cloud. But it feels cheap.
The Bottom Line
So, we wait.
August 12 is close enough to be exciting but far enough away to worry. We want thinner bezels, gold accents, lighter folds. We don’t want inflated prices for less entry-level storage. And God forbid, we don’t want Stephen Curry reading a press release again.
We’ll see what happens when the cameras turn on.
