Sharing files between Android and Apple devices just became easier. Google’s Quick Share feature, designed to mimic Apple’s AirDrop functionality, is now rolling out to a wider range of Pixel phones, including the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The expansion allows for seamless high-resolution file transfers between Android and iPhones, iPads, or Macs.

What’s Changing?

Previously limited to the Pixel 10 series, Quick Share now supports several additional Pixel models. This means Android users can now directly share content with Apple users nearby without relying on third-party apps or cloud services. Google highlights that Quick Share is built with “multi-layered security” to ensure safe data transfer.

The Missing Piece: Pixel 9A

Notably, the feature remains unavailable on the Pixel 9A, and Google has not yet explained why. While future rollouts to additional Android devices are planned for 2026, the exclusion of the 9A raises questions about hardware or software compatibility issues. Apple has not publicly addressed the discrepancy either.

How to Use It

To ensure successful transfers, Apple users must have their AirDrop settings set to “Everyone” instead of “Contacts Only.” Otherwise, the devices may not detect each other. This step is essential, as AirDrop’s default privacy settings can block unintended connections.

The expansion of Quick Share marks a significant step towards bridging the gap between Android and Apple ecosystems. By making file sharing more convenient, Google is streamlining a common pain point for users in mixed-platform environments. The rollout continues, and broader availability in 2026 promises even more interoperability.
