Google has unveiled Lyria 3 Pro, an upgraded version of its AI music generation model, significantly expanding the capabilities introduced with Lyria 3 last month. The key improvement: users can now create full-length tracks up to three minutes long, a major leap from the previous 30-second limit.

Enhanced Creative Control

Beyond duration, Lyria 3 Pro offers finer control over composition. The model now understands musical structure better, allowing users to specify sections like verses, choruses, and bridges directly in their prompts. This means more precise control over the generated music.

Access and Integration

Access to Lyria 3 Pro is currently restricted to paid Gemini subscribers. Google is also integrating the model into its video editing app, Google Vids, and ProducerAI, a music production tool recently acquired by the company.

The rollout extends beyond consumer applications: Lyria 3 Pro is also being integrated into enterprise tools via Vertex AI, the Gemini API, and AI Studio. This indicates Google’s broader push to embed AI-driven music creation into professional workflows.

Data Transparency and Artistic Influence

Google states that the model was trained using data from partners and licensed content from YouTube and Google. While the company claims Lyria 3 Pro doesn’t directly mimic artists, it admits that specifying an artist in prompts results in “broad inspiration” from their style. All AI-generated tracks are watermarked with SynthID, ensuring transparency about their origin.

The expansion of AI music tools raises questions about copyright, artist compensation, and the future of music creation. Google’s move signals a shift toward AI-assisted music production, where creative control is increasingly distributed. The limited access model suggests a monetization strategy, with premium features reserved for paying users.
